Japanese Type 98 IJA Officers Shin Gunto Sword Very long Japanese sword from World War II, Shin Gunto IJA type 98, a Japanese army officer’s sword during the war period, is a beautiful representation of a Shinto blade complemented by a koshirae for military use and a saya for combat use. The long frame blade is in good condition with signs of battle use, it shows a beautiful shinogi zukuri hamon all over its edge. The new owner will likely want to re polish to bring out the beauty of the grain and hamon. The nakago is not signed but shows the assembly rules and the numbering of the number 1 on its seppas and tsuba, the handle or tsuka keeps its entire structure intact with its traditional high quality bronze ornaments as they were at the beginning of the war, the saya or scabbard is made of pigskin (Taitetu) with little damage and keeping its holding ring. This sword is in very good condition and beauty. I recommend it to collectors of ancient Japanese art and to lovers of the history of the samurai who inherited these swords.
