Knights Longsword 14th – 15th Century Private Collection! These swords are super rare when they are in a fine state of preservation. The long swords are by far one of the most intriguing and interesting of the medieval period. due to their specialist application on the battlefield. This sword origins point towards Italy or Germany, the marking on the blade include an inlaid heart and a cross. the cross was both used on similar Medieval sword from Italy and Germany. The cross was also adopted by the Teutonic Order, and similar sword from as early as the 1200’s. Kindly see references below. The hilt has the handle with wood and leather wrapping and crucifix cross guard, The guard has some slight play which is due from the shrinking of the wooden frame of the handle and wear over time. The leather is antique and retained its strength however it has many areas of cracking and damage. The pommel is a large pentagon shape and makes for an effective counter balance making the sword easily maneuverable and robust. The blade is a battle used blade showing extensive use and wear on the edge, this a single fuller on either side which runs around 3/4 of the blade.
